Begin with a stroll amid the vineyards, accompanied by the estate’s owner. Here once stood a Villa by Longhena, of which all that remains are delightful outbuildings with a tower, and some drawings now preserved at Museo Correr in Venice and at the Library of Congress in Washington.
We are at Villa Fioravanti Onesti, ex- residence of a condottiero who in 1600 decided to change his life and become a gentleman farmer; the success story of the vineyard and winery dates back many generations thanks to the family’s passion and dedication. At the end of the walk, enjoy a tasting of excellent wines in the estate’s shop.
Continue through the Alta Marca Trevigiana area to the Prosecco Hills and, at Susegana near Conegliano, the 1200-hectare Borgoluce Agricultural Estate owned by the Collalto family, who have been here for more than a thousand years and have today made eco-sustainability their watchword.
At lunchtime, head to the panoramic Osteria Borgoluce, in the middle of the estate, where the menu is based totally on local products. After lunch, cross the estate and enjoy the rare, breathtaking landscape, which hosts an incredible ecosystem, the same one that was present 500 years ago.
Head up to the Castello that dominates the property, where a guide awaits to accompany you on a visit of the Palazzo. At the end of the visit, stop at the well-stocked estate shop which offers truly special products.
Back down on the plain, visit a Palladian Villa and Unesco World Heritage Site, Villa Emo. In the afternoon light, the absolute perfection of its lines and proportions are striking. This was the villa of the great Venetian agricultural entrepreneurs, the Emo family, and has frescoes depicting the products they cultivated. Visit the garden and the beautiful interiors on your own.
