On the slope of a hill, Villa Arvedi appears. Having passed through the gate, visitors cross an Italian garden famous for the originality of its double-fan design.
The master of thehome, whose family has lived here for generations, accompanies guests through the Villa, describing the grand Salon of the Titans where “the pictorial imaginativeness of Dorigny has left us one of his most grandiose and distinctive works” depicting mythological scenes: Perseus and the Medusa, the battle between the Centaurs and the Lapiths, the Titans holding up the signs of the zodiac.
The trompe l’oeil perspective effects are attributed to Francesco Bibiena.
The visit concludes with an oil tasting in the oil mill, where the olives from the estate have been cold-pressed since the 1400s.
A few kilometers away is a little architectural-landscape jewel with an intact stone structure – a 700 A.D. parish church, one of the most important Romanesque-era monuments in the territory of Verona.
After the visit, enjoy lunch in a traditional old osteria.
Continuing on, you’ll reach another important estate, owned by the direct descendents of Dante Alighieri who still live here: Villa Serego Alighieri, where winemaking is a tradition that has been carried on over seven centuries.
Visit the property with its ancient cellar with cherry-wood casks and a room where Amarone grapes are dried in the traditional way, arranged on grates made of cane.
In the estate’s shop, taste the full range of exclusive wines produced here; there is also a
Selection of historic vintages of Amarone available for purchase.
