Villalta’s castle is an old medieval castle whose documented history dates as far back as 1158.
The castle is located in Villalta di Fagnana on a hill that overlooks the plains of Friuli. It is enveloped by a double circle of walls with Ghibelline battlements, patrol paths on the ramparts and circular corner towers.
The castle is the private residence of the Caporiaccos, one of the most powerful historical families of the Patria del Friuli and is nowadays open to visitors, for events, weddings and meetings.
Here typical regional products are produced: olive oil, “limoncello” - a lemon liqueur, “nocino” – a walnut liqueur, honey and jams.
During the tour, visitors can admire the kitchen furnished in the rustic Friulian style, the “piano nobile” (noble floor) decorated with 1600’s frescos, the Patriarchs’ hall, the Imperial Room and the Room of the Family Trees, which still show period furniture.
The Villalta’s castle is immersed in a park rich in flowers, secular plants, fruit trees and beehives.
