Villa Cagnoni Boniotti is located in Gognano di Villamarzana, at the very heart of the Polesine area. It is a magnificent testimony to the close relationship that once existed between the Venetian aristocracy and the farming landscape.
Built in the 16th century, the estate comprises the manor house, barchessa (center of farming and production activities), and a park with a riverside dock providing access to the waterways.
The Valdendro canal surrounds the estate, which in fact lies on an islet. The manor house is a beautiful example of a countryside mansion and, like the barchessa, is modeled after the Roncale Palace in Rovigo, designed by the architect Michele Sanmicheli.
Revealed by recent restoration, numerous secret passages demonstrate that the Villa was used by the Carbonari secret society for their underground meetings.
Today, the Villa is open to visitors and is a venue for all sorts of events. The Bed&Breakfast in the barchessa offers accommodation in a distinctive and charming atmosphere.
