Castello di Porcia
The Castle of Porcia is one of the emblematic locations of the history of the Friuli region. The complex is made up of a central keep, a Renaissance wing and a Venetian-style structure.
Built to serve the military purpose of protecting the territory from Barbarian invasion, in the 13th century the Castle became the permanent residence of the noble Porcia e Brugnera family, which ruled these lands for eight centuries and held important political and military posts under the Most Serene Republic of Venice.
The Castle of Porcia, still today the family’s home, stands in the middle of 840 hectares of agricultural terrain on which prized grapes and other products are cultivated using cutting-edge methods.
The Castles historic Winery, a testimony to the family’s wine-producing heritage, offers guided visits and tastings. Not far from the Castle, at the Fattoria di Azzano farm, visitors can purchase and taste wines produced using sustainable agricultural methods, as well as a selection of traditional Friuli products.
