The Villa's History
Villa di Montruglio is surrounded by a park, forest and vineyards, at the foot of the Berici hills. Built in 1680 by the ancient Arnaldi family, who commissioned its design to the architect Antonio Pizzocaro, the Villa was extended in the 1720s by Francesco Antonio Muttoni, who added the chapel, the facade's peculiar gable, and the barchessa's colonnade which clearly exhibits a Palladian influence. At Villa di Montruglio, visitors can admire the park and historical gardens, as well as in the main body, the magnificent foyer and a hall frescoed by Francesco Aviani. The Hall of Arms in the barchessa hosts a collection of ancient weapons and horse trappings. On the second floor there are the lapidarium and the Hall of Olympus, so called because of the statues by the Marinali school portraying classical divinities. Visitors can also stroll around in the vineyards of the Villa di Montruglio winery.
