Castello di Spessa, the 13th century historical home in the heart of the Collio Goriziano in Friuli Venezia Giulia - one of the most renowned wine-producing areas in Italy-, was built in the 1200s and was for centuries the home of the Friulian aristocracy and a holiday destination for illustrious figures like Giacomo Casanova and Lorenzo Da Ponte.
The castle offers 15 romantic rooms furnished in Venetian style typical of the 18th and 19th century. It is part of a resort consisting of the winery Castello di Spessa, the Casanova Wine Shop, an 18 hole golf course, the hotel and the “gourmand” restaurant La Tavernetta al Castello as well as the cafe and small restaurant Hosteria del Castello.
The resort also welcomes its guests in country-chic style accommodation with apartments immersed in its own vineyards and with La Boatina di Cormons - a separate villa within the grounds, situated not far from the castle itself.
It is also possible to organise visits to the castle’s wine ageing cellar, the oldest one in Friuli, and take part in guided wine tasting by appointment.
The resort is the ideal location for ceremonies and to organise prestigious events, as well as meetings and conferences, thanks to the well-equipped Casanova Conference Hall.
